The Cover Versions
The Band has been founded 1984 in Vienna, Austria, and lasted until 1992. Introduced by Roland Hermann and Nikolaus Matzka, literary ideas heve been flown into musical miniatures. The songs were taped on 4-track in living room studios.
Many concerts have been played, but there was never an official record because Hermann/Matzka, at that time called the Mick Jagger & Paul Mc Cartney of Vienna, denied to join the music industry. The change from Vinyl to CD made them very angry.
The Cover Versions split up in 1992 after Roland Hermann commited suicide.
More than one decade later, Nikolaus Matzka took a sight on the musical heritage of the Band and decided to record some of the songs. It was done from 2007 to 2009 with new musicians and old friends in Vienna, Austria, and Bangkok, Thailand, the mixing has been held in Stellenbosch, South Africa, because of the good wines down there.
The CD came out and what happened then one can say to all intents and purposes, it was a mass hype. The Cover Versions played again after ages live at the Chelsea in Vienna at fall 2009 to present the recordings; the all star, occasionally aged band consisted former stars of R´R and R&B like Gernot Pribyl (Die Brüder) on drums, Ronnie Hartwig (Trelkowsky) and Felix Vodniansky (Vodniansky) on guitars, the singing was done by golden maid Heike Mangold, while Nikolaus Matzka still played the bass.
That gig should bet he last one to close the chapter The Cover Versions for all time, but it was so impressivly successful that the band was invited to play another concert, it was played at the Kunsthalle (project space) in Vienna.
